Today's Picture:

Taken on November 6, 2011
Brandt's Cormorants (Phalacrocorax penicillatus) have been known to line the North Dock this time of year. Double-crested Cormorants usually mix in. While I don't see any Pelagic Cormorants in this picture, that is another species commonly (but less frequently) seen. Anyone who has visited the park lately knows that this has not been one of our better years for the birds. This is because the dock is being removed. That also means that next year will be even worse for Cormorant sightings.
