I have been walking Chambers Creek Properties for years. I have been carrying a camera since 2009. With the US Open coming to the Chambers Bay Golf Course, which is part of the property, I have decided to share a picture each day for the 365 days leading up to the tournament. The US Open is scheduled to begin on June 18, 2015. As of today, we are 315 days away. Most of our Grebes are winter birds. Pied-billed Grebes (Podilymbus podiceps) are the exception. Although they are seen more often in the winter months, they can be found year round. There are two spots to look for them. One is upstream from the dam on Chambers Creek, especially if you are looking upstream from the bridge. A better location is the pond by the Central Meadow's restroom. These Grebes have nested in that area before. Usually, they just casually swim on the water. When this one spread its wings, I knew that I had to get the shot.
