I have been walking Chambers Creek Properties for years. I have been carrying a camera since 2009. With the US Open coming to the Chambers Bay Golf Course, which is part of the property, I have decided to share a picture each day for the 365 days leading up to the tournament. The US Open is scheduled to begin on June 18, 2015. As of today, we are 235 days away. Some people might look at this picture and recognize this bird as a Canada Goose. People who know better will instead call this a Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii). While the plumage of the two species is essentially the same, the Cackling Goose is smaller with a relatively short neck and short bill. This winter species returned in late September. They can be found in the same habitat as the Canada Geese. Canada Geese are more widespread, but Cackling Geese are usually more numerous when seen.
