Some people might look at this picture and recognize this bird as a Canada Goose. People who know better will instead call this a Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii). While the plumage of the two species is essentially the same, the Cackling Goose is smaller with a relatively short neck and short bill. This winter species returned in late September. They can be found in the same habitat as the Canada Geese. Canada Geese are more widespread, but Cackling Geese are usually more numerous when seen.
