295 Days until the US Open at Chambers Bay

I have been walking Chambers Creek Properties for years. I have been carrying a camera since 2009. With the US Open coming to the Chambers Bay Golf Course, which is part of the property, I have decided to share a picture each day for the 365 days leading up to the tournament. The US Open is scheduled to begin on June 18, 2015. As of today, we are 295 days away. Today's Picture:
Purple Martin
Taken on August 25, 2012

When Pierce County let us know that they were planning on removing the docks during the summer, I wasn't exactly thrilled. They successfully convinced the Ospreys to relocate, but that relocation didn't exactly go as smoothly as they had hoped. The Purple Martins (Progne subis) didn't receive nearly as much attention even though they still nested on the South Dock. I have been paying close attention to the species this year. There is some good news here. These birds do not stick around all summer. I have never recorded a Martin after August 27th. It looks like the county took enough time for the Martins to finish their year at the dock.
