I have been walking Chambers Creek Properties for years. I have been carrying a camera since 2009. With the US Open coming to the Chambers Bay Golf Course, which is part of the property, I have decided to share a picture each day for the 365 days leading up to the tournament. The US Open is scheduled to begin on June 18, 2015. As of today, we are 310 days away. Caspian Terns (Hydroprogne caspia) are seen regularly along the beach during the summer. If you are not too familiar with them, you might confuse them with Gulls. From a distance, look for the slender appearance and their behavior. These birds fly over the water looking down. When they find something they want, they will dive in. If you get reasonably close, look for their black caps and their reddish bills. Those who are familiar with them will recognize the voice of this vocal species. Most people will only see Caspian Terns flying by. If you are willing to walk the beach and have a good low tide, your best bet to find them is to the south. Low tides reveal a flat sandy area that these birds love.
