The Red-shafted Northern Flicker (Colaptes auratus cafer) is our most commonly seen woodpecker. You have a reasonable chance to see them anywhere that we have trees. That means that you can find them along the Grandview Trail, down the hill on the North side of the park, looking across the street from the East Slope Trail, and in the Canyon. This male was seen near the Environmental Services Building. You can tell the male apart from the female by the red mustache mark.
