Red-tailed Hawks (Buteo jamaicensis) are widespread in the region. This is probably why they don't seem to excite people the same way as our Ospreys and Eagles. They can be seen year round at the park. One of the best areas to look for them is by the East Slope Trail, but there is a chance to find them pretty much anywhere. They also nest by the old mill, but that nest is not the best to watch. This is especially true right now as we are well outside of nesting season.
